THE GHOST OF my grandmother stunned me. The vision of the cross claimed me.

First Calling—The Ghost: I hurried from my living room into the dining room. As soon as I turned the corner, I froze, shocked.

My deceased grandmother stood at the right corner of the dining table. Another shadowy figure whom I sensed was my deceased grandfather stood at the left corner of the table.

My grandmother sent a message into my mind:

“Give your life to Jesus.”

Startled, I immediately dropped to the floor and stretched out prone, face down, arms outstretched. No mere kneeling would do for this; I needed the solidity of the floor for support. I told Jesus that I didn’t really know why this was important, and I didn’t understand what was happening, but even so, I gave my life to him. I told him that even though I didn’t know what he wanted from me, he could do with me as he willed. An instant peace came over me so deep and so complete, that no matter the challenges and chaos I went through during the coming years, that same peace and confidence that all would work out for the best, remained in my heart. I experienced that ‘peace beyond understanding’ that is mentioned in the Bible. It’s really true. And yet, I didn’t know why Jesus called me.
